This is the first actual vacation that we've taken as a married (albeit only on paper) couple! We've explored to Busan and I pulled into Hong Kong once but that was all work-turned-into-travel type of exploration, where this is the one we planned from a few months out!
I always had a lot of curiosity and wanted to visit Thailand for a long time. Phuket, Bali, Cebu and Bora Bora are like the vacation destinations you always hear about (from Koreans anyway), and this was a first shot at one of those! All others still to follow.
This is where we stayed. A little cozy place on the southern portion of Phuket, right in front of Kata Noi beach. Because it wasn't as populated as Patong Beach area with all the tourists, the beaches were open, and the view was nearly unobstructed.
We booked this via Expedia for 6 nights. Interestingly we were greeted by an expedia rep even when we arrived super late at night, and was briefed on some of the perks and things to do around the area.
Never seen that with Expedia trips before, maybe this was Phuket specific thing.
Our vibe for the trip
my beautiful awkward thing
Greeted by this gem when we arrived. Super cute to see especially after a long, long flight.
Kata Noi beach was just up front!
So we started exploring the next day (1/17). A lot of random sights to see, restaurants to explore, and of course the beer for her. Can you see how empty the beach is? Ridiculous! Living in Hawaii (2024) right now, this would be the unthinkable.
Panoramic picture from the hotel breakfast area. Still a little early in the morning for beach-goers, but this felt so free after bumping into people in the flights, in cities like Tokyo, Yokohama, living on a carrier, you get what I mean.
We came out here a few more times over the course of next few days, where people wer just out sun bathing and what not. I completely forgot about it until I started uploading pictures, but apparently many Europeans fly out here for their vacations as well. And you know, Europeans, not shy about certain things. This one person was so not shy and confident to the max that she decided she didn't want bikini tan lines! Some interesting sights, for sure. 🍈🍈
Hotel breakfast was fantastic, maybe I'm a little biased by the view...
Would be uncharacteristic of me without a picture of diving with my feet up. Well, at least I think that's me.
You can't say I didn't try! There's much more where these came from!
So for the first couple days, I had signed up for some scuba classes so we could both get scuba certified. I had been certified before by NAUI, but it was not really valid (long story, maybe I'll cover later), and I really liked my short experience with it. So we're going back so we can enjoy this hobby everywhere we go!
Other than scuba, we mostly stuck to food and night market exploration. I don't know what it is about the night markets, I just loooove the vibe going through those things even when I KNOW some of those things are fakes (I even love looking at fakes and pointing out the fakeness). and uuuuusually you can find the real local food around these places!
I didn't really want to start off with the night market, so we went here first. (honestly, we could've gone here second, third, or the fourth, but I can't remember and these were the first food pics from my phone lol)
Red Duck Restaurant. I remember seeing a lot of foreigners and feeling like I needed a reservation (probably didn't though).
⬆️the defining moment of pad thai. pretty good, but not as good as here.
⬅️are you really surprised that she's hoarding the beer? no, not holding, hoarding. look at that determined look.
⬇️can't remember the name, must not have been that memorable.
And then, onward to night markets! Gonna mix up couple nights of night markets all mixed up here. But I think we've been to Banzaan Fresh market and couple hole-in-the-wall type restaurants around our place!
So this is the "banana pancake" - some dough and banana, add in the margarine and put a shit load of sauce on top. It got way too greasy but the first few bites were pretty good!
Some pictures of the night market, fresh fruit stands and seafood stands.
These were not cheap, not as cheap as you would think just because you're in Thailand.
Fish Spa or Fish Pedicure in one of the night markets in Phuket.
First time trying this. Yes, we had to! We're blood type-B's, we're dying to find out how things are and stuff!
Click to see the post and more pictures!
Also we explored some of the areas to get the "street food" of Phuket. I think we picked out some locations where there were some similiaries of "waiting lines", cuz you know, that's the universal sign that the food is good, right?
At least pad thai was definitely better in the street market than restaurants!
This massive tiger prawn, I'd eat this again if someone bought it for me.
I think it was the second or the third day, practically when we finished up our scuba diving lessons (and the actual scuba session), Sinae caught a cold and had to stay in bed for couple of days. Actually in some of these pictures she's not feeling too well, but she's hiding it very well right?
We kind of held some of the plans back until she felt a little bit better.
Our trip continues into part 2 below!
